Some quick facts...

 

  • The education and skills export sector earns the UK around £28 billion a year, compared to automotive (£20 billion), financial services (£19 billion) and healthcare (£14 billion).  Around 70 percent of this comes from the sale of education and training services; the balance is made up from broadcasting, publishing and sales of education equipment.
  • The UK is a world leader in the manufacture and supply of learning resources and English language training
  • TVET UK is the only UK organisation dedicated to representing the interests of the UK vocational and technical education sector internationally
  • During 2006- 2007 there were 83,340 international students in UK further education
  • The top five countries of origin of international students studying in the UK were (in descending order)  Poland, India, Ireland, China and Spain.

  • TVET UK was established in August 2007 by the vocational education, English language training and educational suppliers sectors to identify and develop new and profitable international business opportunities
  • TVET UK is the only UK organisation focussing specifically on skills training within the international arena
  • TVET UK is a membership body dedicated to providing international commercial opportunities to the UK vocational education sector

  • To date TVET UK has undertaken projects in around 25 markets around the world, and participating colleges have advised that they are experiencing increased student recruitment and commercial partnerships as a result.  
  • TVET UK has signed an  MOU with the organisers of the 7th Asian Winter Games to provide  more than 1000 volunteers with excellent English language, customer service and tourism skills . Bradford and Loughborough Colleges will be heading up the delivery project.   
  • TVET UK has signed an ‘In principle Agreement’ with Ivor Blumenthal, CEO of SSETA, as part of his plans to address the skills shortages identified in the South Africans National Skills Development Strategy in London. 
  • In 2008/9, we ran two trade missions on behalf of DIUS and provided input into the vocational programme for the provided the Minister of State David Lammy’s planned visit to Kazakhstan
  • In 2009 TVET UK  were invited to go on the Lord Mayor’s trip to Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to promote the City of London’s financial services and support industries and promoted TVET UK to decision makers in the relevant government ministries and commercial organisations
  • The UK's further education Colleges are publicly funded highly-regulated institutions incorporated by Act of Parliament, subject to close regulation by various funding bodies, offering legitimate courses to legitimate students and demonstrating robust monitoring systems.
  • Further education colleges provide high quality education to over 28,000 legitimate non-EU international students every year.
  • Further education Colleges educate and train around three million people each year
