TVET UK members, will be providing a range of training programmes for the 2011 Asian Winter Games being hosted in Kazakhstan. TVET UK Director, Matthew Anderson, signed a memorandum with the organisers of the 7th Asian Winter Games, during his visit to Almaty in July, part of the City of London’s Lord Mayor’s official visit.
Hosting such a high profile event is a major success for the country and they will need more than 1000 volunteers with excellent English language, customer service and tourism skills to ensure that the Games run smoothly. Bradford and Loughborough Colleges will be heading up the delivery project and have significant experience in developing skills for major sporting events.
Bradford College was involved in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and will be working with the organisers of the upcoming games in Dehli, and Loughborough College, a Centre of Vocational Education for Sport and Recreation, is working with officials in Zambia on programmes to support the PanAfrican Games 2011.
Matthew Anderson says, ‘TVET UK is delighted to be involved with such an important and high profile project. The eyes of the sporting world will be on Kazakhstan in 2011 and it is a source of great pride to know that UK education providers will have played a part in the undoubted success of the event.’
