TVET UK has met with delegation from South Sudan looking to develop the world's newest country. Later this year, they will lead a mission there.
TVET UK has held a seminar for the first delegation of education officials to visit from the world’s newest country, South Sudan. After 50 years of conflict, the new government is looking to establish an education system that will have a significant role to play in promoting social cohesion and the development of a skilled, enthusiastic workforce.
The delegation was visiting the UK for this month’s World Learning Forum and had asked the British Council’s Sudan Country Director, Tony Calderbank, to arrange a session where they could meet commercially focussed organisations that could provide technical education infrastructure, equipment and training.
More than 20 TVET UK members attended the seminar to find out more about South Sudan and future opportunities, and to present on their own organisations. TVET UK is currently arranging a visit to South Sudan later in the year to position the UK as the partner of choice, and TVET UK members as the team that can deliver.
