International House Newcastle opened its doors in September 1978 offering English classes to overseas students, then over the years specialised in courses for university students, doctors, lawyers and clients from a wide variety of other professions, and still train teachers for almost all our major competitors. Since then we have trained over 1000 teachers and taught nearly 25,000 clients. 

Our language training is complemented by a client welfare programme with accommodation in our student apartments or local home stay, and a stimulating social and cultural programme.

We wrote the first internationally recognised English language teacher training programme and recently piloted the first International House on-line teacher training course. We have also developed a Personal Study Programme (PSP) resource centre, with approximately 30,000 specialist resources for language clients in specialist areas. We have a growing reputation for providing international consultancy services.

Internationally, we founded teacher training centres in Dubai, Kiev, Minsk, Vancouver, Dublin, Vilnius, Malta, Pamplona and Riga.  We are the first language institute to have integrated Harvard Business School and LearnDirect e-courses into a language learning context.
