Havering College of Further and Higher Education was established in 1947 and is a state run college located in the London Borough of Havering on the border of Essex. It has currently approximately 13000 students studying on a whole range of vocational and academic courses.
The college has 3 campuses and state of the art facilities. It was recently awarded TQS (Training Quality Standard) for its responsiveness to employers which superseded the COVEs (Centre of Vocational Excellence in academic terms) The college has 3 COVE’s * Accounting and Finance, Building Services and Automotive engineering. It has a very well established Teacher training department with over 15 years of experience offering currently a variety of teacher training qualifications ranging from PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in Lifelong Learning Sector) to PGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate of Education). Havering College has been actively involved in various international projects and partnerships in the last 5 years. Examples of current international projects include on-line courses in IT; an on-line course in PC maintenance in Russian with a college in Siberia and a cross-over project in Performing Arts with Hocking College in Ohio, USA, two Teacher Training Projects in Nigeria and Iraq. The college has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Yemen Ministry of Vocational and Technical Education and is in process of acquiring a status of an approved VET provider in the country; a consortium agreement with YOK (Turkish Educational Council) for HND (Higher National Diploma) to be delivered in Turkey with a progression to a degree course in Logistics and Engineering in the UK. The college has managed in the past over half a dozen PMI (Prime Minister Initiative) projects. The latest achievement being granted an ERASMUS University Charter for student exchanges in HE with EU Universities and Colleges.
