Stevenson College Edinburgh (SCE) was established in 1970 and is one of the largest further education colleges in Scotland, welcoming over 17,000 students every year onto full-time, part-time, employer release and short course programmes. Situated in the west of Edinburgh, the College is 15 minutes from Edinburgh’s beautiful and historic city centre.

The College is funded by the Scottish Government, has an annual turnover of over £23 million and a strong commercial focus both in Scotland and overseas. SCE is noted for its flexible, adaptable and responsive approach to client needs.

A range of programmes are offered at SCE, from Introductory courses and NQs (National Qualifications) through to HNDs (Higher National Diplomas), BTECs and Degree Foundation – all providing students with a route to further study at university, employment or a professional qualification such as the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) or Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). Students join the College from many different countries including Japan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Colombia and India.

The College employs over 500 qualified staff teaching subjects ranging from Accounting to English Language, Computing and Beauty Therapy. SCE’s accreditations include:

  • Centre of Excellence in Paralegal Studies in the East of Scotland
  • Cisco Systems Networking Academy
  • Microsoft IT Academy Programme

In 2007 The Music Box was opened, a state-of-the-art dedicated music and performing arts centre which includes a 120-seated auditorium and a professional standard recording studio. The College is currently engaged in a major estates development programme, upgrading its sports, engineering and student social facilities and adding to its existing facilities including the Self-Access Centre, cafeteria, library and prayer room.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY

SCE is actively involved in a range of international projects including student recruitment, developing international partnerships and delivering international contracts. The College’s 10-strong International Development Team is responsible for international marketing, international student support, international student accommodation and European projects. The dedicated International Centre guides students and their sponsors through the process of applying to study in Scotland and supports them throughout their stay in Edinburgh. The high quality, comprehensive support provided to international students was recognised by the College’s successful award of the 2008 Association of Colleges Beacon Award – the British Council Award for International Student Support.

SCE has over 25 years experience in delivering high quality internationally recognised qualifications. All SCE’s English Language courses are accredited by the British Council, and the College runs a very successful annual English language summer school. Stevenson also has a strong track record in delivering ICELT and CLIL programmes to groups of teaching professionals sponsored by regional governments in Spain and China.

Current international projects include a British Council Skills at Work project in Azerbaijan and the development of a 3+1+1 programme in China, articulating to the BA (Hons) Business Management at Edinburgh’s Napier University, one of SCE’s highly valued local university partners. SCE’s European work includes hosting students and staff members from European partners every year to undertake work placements or study visits in Edinburgh. The College is also heavily involved in the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme and receives funding for a variety of projects such as Leonardo Mobility, Erasmus mobility for staff and students, partnership projects, staff study visits and in-service training.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

SCE has a dedicated Business Development Unit delivering high quality training courses, certification programmes and consultancy to meet the needs of UK and international clients. The College has vast experience and expertise in servicing training needs across many specialist subjects and skill areas, working in conjunction with the College’s Faculties.

Training and course materials can be developed at all levels and delivery modes adapted to the client’s needs through means of lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance and online learning. The Business Development Unit works in partnership with clients to develop frameworks that assess needs, propose and design training options, arrange and manage delivery and evaluate the effectiveness of the training.
