Japanese students take off with new airline skills
The travel and tourism team at Castle College Nottingham has just said goodbye to a group of students from prestigious Japanese Universities. The students came to study for a 4 week Airline Cabin Crew Introductory Certificate combined with English. They experienced a wide range of practical activities aimed at promoting effective customer care and maintaining effective team working using the College’s cabin simulator.
The Japanese students learned about the role of cabin crew and also received training in first aid, health and safety and security. The English programme provided general and specialist language training. During the course, the students visited the Airline Activity Centre in Birmingham and had a behind-the-scenes tour of Manchester Airport. All students passed the course with flying colours and celebrated with a ‘Wings’ Passing Out Ceremony. This was attended by staff from British Airways, who gave them advice about career opportunities available in the industry.
One student said: ‘The course was wonderful. I would never have experienced such good training in Japan. The teachers have all been so kind and always encouraged me when I felt nervous or apprehensive.’ All students now intend to work as airline cabin crew when they have finished their University studies. They are the latest in a long line of students who have benefited from this industry recognised course and who are now ready to fly high.
