In June 2008 working in partnership with embassy staff in Cairo and Alexandria, TVET UK led a group of ten members on a scoping mission to Egypt.
The aim of the scoping mission was to investigate the market with a view to identifying key opportunities by sector.
The visit was supported jointly by TVET UK, UKTI and DIUS and proved to be successful the group comprised of: Doug Powell (Highbury College, Portsmouth), Margaret Miller (Scottish Qualifications Authority), Brian Merchant (Engineering Construction Industry Training Board), Jane Briggs (Bradford College), Tony Grainger (The Learning Skills Network), David Dana (Nord Anglia), David Denton (Chartered Institute of Environmental Health), Jailan Gamaledin (Edexcel) and William Prieto-Parra (British Educational Suppliers Association) and Alan McArthur (TVET UK).
The group met with key contacts in government, national agencies, and industry from Cairo and Alexandria, with a view to gaining an understanding of the technical and vocational education & training sector in Egypt and to identify the key sectors where skills development in Egypt is needed in the short to medium term.
As a result TVET UK will be working more closely with Egypt to develop collaborative partnerships and projects in the near future.
