City College Brighton and Hove - developing innovative programmes for training the trainer
City College Brighton and Hove worked with the Vocational Training Institute in Jeddah to deliver an innovative eight month training programme for students from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The programme was sponsored by GOTEVOT, the General Organization for Technical and Educational Training, and was suitable for both teachers and assessors.
The college has a long history of working in the Middle East, and so has developed an understanding of the culture of Saudi Arabia, together with an appreciation of people’s skills needs. Students travelled from Jeddah to the UK for the course and quickly adapted to methodologies that were very different from those employed at home.
The students learned about work-based learning methodologies, and how to assess those methods. The newly-qualified students returned to Jeddah with a City & Guilds qualification to teach and assess trainees at the Vocational Training Institute and in the workplace.
