Edinburgh’s Telford College – increasing international student opportunities and providing real value for money.
Edinburgh’s Telford College has an established reputation for international student recruitment with more than 1700 overseas students presently studying there, and a number of international awards for the high quality of its provision. It offers a range of courses and qualifications, but specialises in hospitality management and dental technology. Both of these areas attract significant funding.
Study programmes for overseas students follow the extremely successful transnational education model. Having begun the course in their own country, students complete the qualification in Edinburgh. This is cheaper for the student and also gives good international work experience. And students that come to Scotland can also gain a post study work visa on completion of their HND, which makes the college a particularly attractive destination.
Julia Weedon, Head of International Development, has developed a particularly strong relationship with the Asian market, which had provided significant opportunity. She is currently working on implementing the transnational education model with the Philippines Institute, which has never worked with a UK partner before.
Julia and the team are keen to move into new regions with the help of TVET UK. ‘I’m always looking to develop our international business and wanted to work with UK partners on tendering opportunities worldwide. I like the fact that TVETUK membership stretches across equipment suppliers, as this gives us the opportunity to work in partnership to provide the full package.’
