TQ Education and Training Ltd - developing industrial skills for national economic success
In June 2006 the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MINPET) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Technical Education and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) and the Chevron Corporation agreed to work together to create a technical training institute which would play a key role in preparing young Saudis for successful careers in the petroleum services sector.
TQ Education and Training Limited project managed the development of the initiativ, and now provides the project management, training delivery and equipment for this landmark programme, which will become a key supporter of this major sector of Saudi Arabia’s economy and national infrastructure.
Founded in 1958, the company has developed a portfolio of services which includes:
- designing, equipping and managing training centres for government and corporate clients
- providing teachers, tutors, mentors and instructors
- implementing quality, administration and management systems
- developing curriculum and learning materials
- internationally recognised accreditation through partnership with leading awarding bodies and institutions.
The Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic opened in October 2008 and now caters for over 600 students at any one time. Facilities include multi-media labs and workshops with industry-standard workshop equipment including a state-of-the-art drilling simulator, blow-out preventers and demonstration rigs.
Students undertake a two-year programme, fully customised to the oil industry, which prepares them for industry or further study. After completing a foundation programme in English, maths, science, an introduction to the oil industry and IT, students progress to a technical programme of training in mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance or drilling services. Successful graduates achieve an internationally recognised NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations and bespoke awards in Petroleum Production and Drilling Services. These awards are accredited by the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and PAA/VQ-SET.
