Sharing good practice

Direct access to leading educational and vocational experts

The UK is a world leader in the provision of vocational education and training, with an international reputation for high quality programmes and qualifications developed with industry experts in order to meet the needs of the changing workplace.

There is an established framework of qualifications covering learning and skills at all levels that allows flexible progression across academic and vocational learning.  A network of industry organisations, such as Sector Skills Councils, ensures that vocational qualifications are relevant, at an appropriate level and of a high standard. National initiatives such as the Government flagship programme, Train to Gain, provide funding and support for employers and students alike and demonstrate the emphasis that is placed upon developing workplace skills through lifelong learning in the UK.

TVET UK members have a wealth of expertise from the worlds of education and industry.  They are passionate about skills development and eager to work with colleagues and other interested parties around the globe to help them develop world class provision.

How can we help you access UK expertise?
TVET UK hosts visiting delegations from around the world, and delegates can network and build relationships with experts from their areas of interest.

Recent delegations have travelled from China, Vietnam and Bulgaria and have met with government education departments, policy makers, awarding bodies, colleges and training providers, equipment suppliers and employers.  All of these were delighted to meet them and keen to be of help.

Vietnamese Delegation visiting the Toyota factory, Derby

Case Study: during the Vietnamese President’s visit to the UK in Spring 2008, TVET UK member’s welcomed two delegations of senior officials from Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) in Vietnam.

Both delegations wanted an overview of vocational training strategy and policies and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ), as well as specific information on a range of areas including quality assurance and inspection systems and government funding models, and education-industry partnerships.

TVET UK members were delighted to be able to extend their hospitality to the delegation and several gave presentations designed to provide more information on the UK vocational education sector in general, illustrated with practical examples from their organisation.  TVET UK members taking part in the visit included British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA), Centre for Excellence in Leadership (CEL), HME Technology, Lifelong Learning (LLUK), Standards Verification Unit (SVUK), Edexel, Castle College (Nottingham) and Bournemouth & Poole College. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Castle College Nottingham, where delegates were able to enjoy lunch with Vietnamese students studying there and gain an insight into their experiences.
