Our Work
Track Record
MBBC's work spans trade missions, government and ministerial engagement, City of London events, energy briefings, education partnerships, and sustained in-country presence across more than fifty visits to Mauritania since 2016. The following is a record of key engagements and milestones across the decade.
Government & Diplomatic Engagement
Regular briefings with HM Ambassadors to Mauritania — including Simon Boyden and Colin Wells — hosted at member venues including Control Risks and the Reform Club. Consistent engagement with the British Embassy in Nouakchott maintained throughout.
Hosted the Mauritanian Ambassador to the Court of St James at member events. MBBC has supported the Mauritanian Embassy's annual Independence Day receptions at the Reform Club, bringing together UK and Mauritanian figures in an annual bilateral gathering.
Matthew Anderson attended the inauguration of President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani alongside African and Middle Eastern heads of state — one of a small number of UK representatives present at a significant moment in Mauritania's political transition.
Directors' visits to Nouakchott with meetings across the ministries of Economy, Petroleum, Education and Health, plus the Chamber of Commerce (CCIAM) and APIM. A programme of sustained ministerial engagement demonstrating MBBC's access across government.
Matthew Anderson attended President Ghazouani's second inauguration — marking MBBC's continued presence at the highest levels of Mauritanian political and commercial life a full decade into the organisation's existence.
London Events Programme
MBBC's flagship London venue for member gatherings, ambassador receptions, and bilateral networking. Annual Independence Day receptions have established the Reform Club as the social centre of the UK–Mauritania relationship.
MBBC hosted Dr Sidi Ould Tah, then Director-General of BADEA (Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa), at a member law firm in the City for an open discussion on Mauritania's investment environment and economic direction. Dr Ould Tah has since been appointed President of the African Development Bank.
Launch of the edUKate Mauritania initiative with 150+ delegates, a keynote from the Minister of Higher Education, and both the UK and Mauritanian ambassadors in attendance — demonstrating MBBC's convening power across bilateral education initiatives.
MBBC events have extended beyond the commercial to include the Oxford EAMENA programme's briefing on Mauritania's endangered archaeology and a discussion with journalist and philosopher Kissima Diagana on press and cultural freedom — deepening members' understanding of the country.
Trade Missions & In-Country Activity
MBBC's first formal trade mission to Mauritania, establishing relationships with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIAM) and the National Union of Employers (UNPM) that have formed the basis of the organisation's in-country network ever since.
Led a joint trade mission with the Energy Industries Council — covered on Mauritanian national television, attended by government ministers and 50+ Mauritanian businesses, with 100% positive delegate feedback. One of the most significant UK trade missions to Mauritania ever conducted.
MBBC attended Mauritanides — the country's flagship mining and energy conference — as international attention on Mauritania's offshore gas potential accelerated significantly.
Participated in MSGBC 2023, engaging with global energy companies, investors, and the Mauritanian government on the country's transformational LNG and renewables opportunity.
Energy Sector Engagement
Direct briefing from BP's Projects VP Gerry McGurk on the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim offshore LNG development and UK supply chain opportunities. One of MBBC's most commercially significant events for energy sector members.
A webinar on sustainable industry growth with Mauritania's Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines attracted over 200 delegates — demonstrating MBBC's convening power in connecting UK organisations with Mauritanian government at the highest level.
Sustained presence at Africa's major energy conferences — including Africa Gas, Africa Power & Renewables, Mauritanides, and MSGBC — positioning MBBC at the centre of the conversation around Mauritania's energy future.
Engagement with major energy sector players including Petrofac and CWP Global, providing MBBC members with intelligence on Mauritania's rapidly developing energy supply chain and the opportunities it presents for UK businesses.
Education & Capacity Building
TVET UK delivers the first UK-standard English language training institution in Mauritania. The project directly inspired the founding of MBBC — and its first cohort of graduates are now in employment across Mauritania.
Launch of edUKate Mauritania with 150+ delegates. The Minister of Higher Education delivered the keynote address; both the UK and Mauritanian ambassadors attended. A milestone moment for UK–Mauritania education partnership.
MBBC membership connects your organisation to a decade of relationships, intelligence and practical engagement with Mauritania that no newcomer can replicate.
